Two data centre zonings. One of them metres from your back garden.

Since 2021, land at Jigginstown and Newhall on Naas's western edge has been zoned "P - Data Centre Only." One site (P1) already has planning permission for six gas-powered data halls. A second (P2), backing directly onto Primrose Garden, has none yet - and we want to keep it that way. We're not against data centres. We're against ones this large, this close, and this thirsty for water, gas and grid capacity, sitting beside people's homes.

Where we're talking about

P1 (M7 Business Park, Halverstown/Jigginstown) and P2 (Jigginstown, backing onto Primrose Garden) sit either side of the M7/R409 interchange, wedged against existing housing. This isn't an out-of-town industrial estate - it's a five-minute walk from people's front doors.

We are not anti-datacentre - but how many is enough? Data infrastructure is part of modern life, and this campaign isn't about stopping technology or investment in Ireland. But Ireland already has by far the highest share of any national electricity grid in Europe going to data centres - 19% in 2024, more than double the Netherlands' 7%, the next-highest major market, and Ireland's own national figure has since climbed to 23%. It's about scale and location: we're concerned specifically about a cluster of hyperscale, gas-fired facilities this size sitting within metres of Jigginstown's residents, and what that proximity could mean for people, our environment, our water and electricity resources, and the animals that share this land. P1 - Herbata

Already granted, now under appeal

Kildare County Council granted permission in August 2025 despite a wide range of objections. Both the developer and third parties have since appealed to An Bord Pleanála - the case is not fully closed. We've reviewed the planning file to understand how this was approved and what it means for P2.

P2 - Jigginstown

No application yet - this is the fight we can still win

No planning application has been lodged for P2 at the time of writing. At 54.55 hectares - larger than P1, and about seven times the area of Croke Park - it's the biggest of the two sites. Our ask is simple: get Kildare County Council to vary the Local Area Plan and remove the "P - Data Centre" zoning here before an application arrives.
